Here are some common questions about cookies :

Q - Why do I need my computer to accept cookies ?

A - Cookies on this site control access to the editing of records and are necessary to comply with the Data Protection Act.  When you make a record on the site the club making the record is also recorded.  The cookie ensures that only the club which made the report has the ability to edit it.

Q - What's a cookie ?

A - Its a small text file which the web site writes to your computer when you log in - in this case it records which club you belong to.

Q - Will it harm my computer ?

A - Absolutely not,  a cookie is not a virus or a worm,  it cannot harm your computer.  Many web sites use cookies to record and remember information about the users of their sites,  indeed virtually every football club web sites uses them to interact with club members.

Q - How long does it last ?

A - Cookies can be programmed to last for many years - in this case it remains valid for one day and is renewed each time you log in.

Q - What happens if I don't allow my computer to accept cookies  ?

A - You will still be able to use the web site however you will be completely unable to edit any records which you or your club make on the site.

Q - Does the cookie differentiate between records belonging to the same person ?

A - Yes,  one of the clever things about them is that if, for instance one club records a new nominal on the database and an incident and an address,  that club will be the only one which could alter details of the nominal or the other entries they made.  If another club later added an incident to the same person the second club would be able to edit tat record but none of the others, likewise the orginal club would be unable to edit the new record made by the second club.  In this way each item of data on the system is owned wholly by the club which made it.

Q - How will I know who made the entries ?

A - Each entry shows which club made the entry.

Q - How could I edit an entry made by another club which I know to be wrong ?

A - You cannot, however the answer to this would be to contact the club making the record and inform them that a record needs changing, it would be then their responsibility to do this.
