John Rutherford Stands down as NE Regional chair October 2016

John was appointed Stadium Operations Manager at Sheffield Wednesday FC in October 2007.

He has worked as a steward in all divisions, including the Premier League with Sheffield Wednesday, where he held a key role in the safety team under Clive Warne for the Euro 96 event at Hillsborough. He progressed to Chief Steward at Chesterfield, spent a season training stewards at Rotherham United, and then was briefly the Deputy Safety Officer at Sheffield United before going on to Hull City as Safety Officer in 1999. John joined Mansfield Town in November 2001 and left the club in February 2005 to become General Secretary of the Football Safety Officers Association.

John attended and completed the Inaugural Event and Match Day Safety Management course at Trent Bridge in October and November 2002 and went on to complete his NVQ4 in crowd control. He also holds a NEBOSH certificate.

John was installed as the FSOA Chairman at the AGM held at Barnsley in March 2009 until for personal reasons he stood down from the role in 2011 and became the North East regional chair.

John is pleased to have been given the opportunity to help the Association to progress as a professional body, and is enjoying working with the National Committee and wider membership to achieve the aims and objectives of the Association.
