Another Thrilling Cup Final – Colne FC 1 – 3 Southport FC

The University of Bolton Stadium was the iconic backdrop for the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy Final 2019, sponsored by Partners Foundation.

The match between Colne FC and Southport FC was to provide a massive challenge to Colne, sitting two levels behind their opponents, but for most of the match the lads from East Lancashire were very much in the hunt.

In the early stages both teams had chances, with Southport taking 2 and Colne not being quite quick enough and the 3-0 half time scoreline looked to reflect the gulf in levels. Colne fought back gallantly in the second half to reduce the deficit to 3-1, therefore managing to “win the second half”.

Southport eased through the second half to win 3-1 and secure the prestigious trophy.

The UBS is still very much a Premier League status stadium and the hospitality provided by Lancashire FA for its guests was excellent with Peter Stevenson from Sky Sports hosting proceedings. With all the trials and tribulations being faced by Bolton Wanderers let’s all hope that a solution to their new ownership can be found and that they can rise from the ashes of League One next season. It would be good to see them able to resume membership of the FSOA.
