Championship – 20 June Pencilled InPeter Houghton
The Championship, one of the most prestigious leagues in the world is set to restart on 20 June. Although this is not quite definite yet, the EFL are looking at this date as the date upon which it can get its season going again.
Despite 10 people testing positive out of 1058 across the Championship clubs, it is understood that domestic football’s toughest division is looking to conclude its competition. On various media outlets this morning, there seemed to be opposition to this date from the ownership of Queens Park Rangers, whose CEO Lee Hoos stated he was “vehemently opposed” to the restart of the Championship. The date is also said to have shocked QPR Director of Football, Les Ferdinand and also Manager Mark Warburton.
The issue seems to be more around the fact that phase 2 of the training guidelines has only just come into force and that Hoos doesn’t believe there is enough time to get the players fit enough to justify the start date. He believes he is not the only dissenting voice, but as at this morning was the only one to share his view. QPR would refer at least another week.
