FSOA Making a Difference….in StockportPeter Houghton
The FSOA made a difference when it contributed a signed Frank Bruno boxing glove to one of the Lord Mayor of Stockport’s Charity Evenings held at Rainbow88 in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport last week.
Proprietor and organiser Linda Lam is a remarkable woman who, besides running a restaurant, bringing up her daughter single-handed and, last year, suffering from breast cancer herself, works tirelessly raising funds and awareness for Stockport’s charities. Linda never turned down any request to help raise funds even when she was suffering the immediate after-effects of chemotherapy. It is great privilege to have known Linda for in excess of 20 years and to be regularly involved with “Team Rainbow” and the charity events.
On Friday 15 March 2019, the Lord Mayor of Stockport, Walt Brett, was looking to support Motor Neurone disease and Parkinson’s sufferers and with help of his Deputy, Wendy Meikle, money raiser extraordinaire, accumulated close to £2000 with £260 coming from the Frank Bruno glove donated by the FSOA.
On the photo we can see Mayor Walt Brett, his Deputy Wendy Meikle, the inevitable Linda Lam, the winner Stuart Roberts and yours truly. A great event as usual, a great restaurant too.
