That’s All Folks – For NowPeter Houghton
So, last night saw the final game of the domestic season in England, with the Sky Bet EFL Championship play-off final between Fulham and Brentford, local rivals in West London.
The Cottagers came out 2-1 winners and we welcome them back to the Premier League, welcoming also their Safety Officer (another) Chris Baker and his brand new Deputy Dujon Brown-Taylor. Dujon is so “hot-off-the-press” Pat has only just finished setting him up on the website!
I would duly ask all colleagues with Premier League Clubs to afford them as much help as possible over the new season. Chris is a great friend since we did the Event & Match Day Safety Management Course together, under the auspices of Sue Watson. Indeed, Chris was Safety Officer at Southend United when Shaun Goater, ex- Man City & Bristol City, played his last game and had to manage a full stadium, attended by 500 Man City fans, and his Club won their division title that day, against….Bristol City!
Our commiserations go to the gallant Brentford FC, who will commence the new season in a brand new stadium, as another iconic sports ground succumbs to the new variety. Again can I ask any colleagues with experience of moving into a new stadium to help Barney, Dave & Lee if they reach out.
We now move into another challenging period getting ready for the re-introduction of spectators, whenever we get the green light for it. I’m due to attend a meeting with all stakeholders on 18 August 2020 to discuss the SG02 document and what the final draft might look like. Watch this space. There will also be a Management Board meeting shortly after this at Port Vale (fully socially-distanced of course). I will keep you posted of any developments, either here or via the WhatsApp groups. Keep any eye out for them.
In the meantime, if you are getting yourselves a summer break, please enjoy yourselves and continue to STAY SAFE
